The following developments were included in the present study: 1. A correlation analysis was made of ETP calculated using the Hargreaves equation and latitude, longitude, and elevation for 58 stations in Brazil. 2. With this information, empirical formulas were developed for estimating evapotranspiration in different areas of Brazil by using only latitude, longitude, elevation, or combinations of these parameters. 3. Determinations were made of the influence of the length of record on the reliability of monthly mean values of precipitation. The results of the comparison between the empirical equations developed in this study and Hargreaves' equation indicated reasonable agreement. The greater deviations were observed when the number of stations used in developing the equations increased. For Brazil, the use of the empirical equations is recommended when approximation of evapotranspiration with errors up to 20 percent are acceptable. This statement assumes that ETP values computed using Hargreaves' equation are correct for Brazil. Temperature presented the highest coefficient of determination (r2). A comparison between measured temperature and temperature calculated with empirical equations developed during the correlation analysis showed that the maximum deviation observed in any zone was 1,8 graus C. This indicates that average monthly temperature can be easily predicted in any part of Brazil. ... |
